Overview
Kidrobot, founded in 2002 by designer Paul Budnitz, is the world’s premier designer and retailer of limited edition art toys and apparel. The products sold at Kidrobot exemplify the cutting edge of both mass culture and pop art and include toys, apparel, and accessories. In September 2009, Kidrobot approached Direct Agents to help them build their presence in the affiliate marketplace.
Approach
Prior to working with Direct Agents, Kidrobot’s online marketing consisted of search and an affiliate program with the Google Affiliate Network (GAN). Kidrobot’s GAN program was not meeting their expectations so Direct Agents was brought on board in order to improve the network’s performance.
Utilizing their affiliate program management service, Direct Agents was able to assist Kidrobot by developing, implementing and maintaining a successful sales and marketing campaign. Direct Agents leveraged its experience with affiliate marketing within the GAN to increase positions and promotions of the Kidrobot offer. Bi-weekly newsletters were deployed to the GAN affiliates and a dedicated Direct Agents affiliate team helped ‘sell’ the Kidrobot program to an entire new base of affiliates.
Direct Agents also worked with Kidrobot’s creative team and suggested ways to maximize performance of campaign creative. Additional A/B testing with creative was conducted to help increase overall campaign conversions for affiliates.
Results
As a result of Direct Agents management of Kidrobot’s Google Affiliate Network, Kidrobot saw a dramatic increase in sales and active affiliates.For the months of November and December of 2009, sales growth more than doubled 2008 numbers and the average sale amount increased. The number of active publishers also grew five-fold.The Direct Agents affiliate recruitment efforts resulted in a base of publishers who consistently market the Kidrobot campaign. The ‘hands on’ Direct Agents approach helped revitalize an underdeveloped affiliate program into a highly successful sales channel for the client. Direct Agents continues to work with Kidrobot in exploring new ways to grow their business online.
